Q&A with Bobby Taylor – Avid Runner and PT patient

Bobby Taylor is an avid runner and has been a returning patient at Fitzgerald PT on various occasions. As a returning patient, he’s what we call a Fitzgerald PT “Athlete for Life”! He’s also been a member of the Melrose Run Club for the past 6 years. He lives in Saugus with his wife, 2 Shiloh Shepherds and 2 Maine Coons. In addition to running, he enjoys hiking, travel, and all things weather related.

Q: When did you discover your love for running?

A: I played sports throughout childhood but running was always just a way to improve fitness for those sports. I was in my early 30s before I developed a passion for running as a sport and hobby.

Q: As a runner, what types of injuries have you sustained over the years?

A: Chronic low back pain, Plantar Facitis, Sciatica, IT band issues, and some knee stuff from time to time.

Q: When did you first come visit us at Fitzgerald PT, and how did you hear about us?

A: Septemeber of 2022 was my first visit with Fitzgerald. I was introduced to Fitzgerald by Holly when she came to present at one of our club runs a few years ago.

Q: What was your experience like at Fitzgerald PT? What did you enjoy the most?

A: When I first showed up to PT I could not make the 30 minute drive to work with out stopping for a break to walk because my back and sciatica pain was so intense. I experienced immediately relief from day one.My PT took a lot of extra time to understand my needs and work to my specific goals (get pain free and run). This behavior continued and each session started with a “check-in” to see how the plan was going, what was working, evaluate progress, and plan next steps. Probably my favorite part was that my time was always well used and I left feeling like I’d put in serious work!

Q: What would you say to someone that is hesitant to try PT or claims that “it doesn’t work”?

A: It works if you work it and you deserve it!! Like many things PT is a tool and you will get out what you put in and the PT’s at Fitzgerald will be there to support you when you’re ready to change the way you feel. It does work, but it takes work, this isn’t a magic pill it is a lifestyle change.

Q: What is on your race calendar thus far for 2023?

A: BAA 5K, 10K, and Half Marathon (the Distance Medley) This has been a tradition of mine since moving to the area in 2015. My calander is otherwise open as I have big travel plans for 2023 and continue to hike the New Hampshire 48 4000 footers.

Q: Anything else you’d like to share?

A: I’d like to just share my gratitude for Fitzgerald and the awesome team of people that spend time taking care of us. I have been pain free for about 2 months now and running really well. The “at home” program I was given is working great for me and it has become part of my daily fitness routine with great results. Thank you!!
